Common sky / The birds of Afghanistan

Common sky / The birds of Afghanistan is an upcoming, multidisciplinary project about humanity and the lack of it. Common sky is a project about the results and effects of war, the failure of western imperialism and about the collapse of living conditions for humans and animals. It is a project about movement, migration, time and grief. As well as human migration, it focuses also at the migration of birds; there are several species of birds that migrate from Afghanistan to Europe and vice versa every spring and every fall.

The project is also a pledge for attention for the grim and hopeless reality of people, especially women, in modern day Afghanistan. We share stories from the people living and dying in the modern day Afganistan and of the people who have left the country.

Working group includes Anttoni Halonen documentarist Jussi Rastas and sound designer Kristian Ekholm.

Upcoming exhibition 2026, stay tuned for more information.

The work has been funded by Koneen säätiö.
